DEAR LOLA
by Joan Andal Romano
One day during studio, artists were asked to pick a card randomly from a box of cards. I pulled out a card with the number 24 and the word ‘GRATITUDE’. The 24 made sense as it is my birthday, but what about ‘GRATITUDE’ ? Why did this card choose me ? I came to Canada in 1977, became a citizen and eventually became a professional engineer and an artist. I grew up in a country of equal opportunity; I have a lot to be grateful for.
Joan Andal Romano was born in Legazpi, Albay, Phiilippines. She began painting and creating mixed media art in 2010. Her creations are visual representations of people, places and frozen moments in time. The multi-cultural mix and historical backdrop witnessed in her childhood as a Torontonian are her everlasting muses. Joan’s ‘fabric of life’ includes diversity, the spirit of acceptance and positive energy. She brings them to life on canvas using vibrant colours and creative chaos in design, pattern and texture. This is Joan’s 3rd Solo Exhibition in Toronto.
