The relationship between Food and Art is as old as art itself, beginning with depictions of animals in cave drawings. The artworks in our group show ART OF FOOD explore this enduring connection. Some are straightforward representations, while others are abstract constructs. In some the food itself commands our attention. And in others it’s the IDEA of food that gets us thinking…

An Exhibition Celebrating Food in Art
A group show to celebrate
and the upcoming 30th Anniversary of UrbanSource Catering.
ART OF FOOD features food-themed artworks by ten Canadian artists.
Emebet Belete Artist, educator — Ethiopia, Canada, China. Reflection, contemplation, stories, experimentation — a never ending journey. Emebet states "it’s a small and wonderful world".
Aisha Chiguichon is a passionate self-taught visual artist of Caribbean roots raised in the GTA. In her artwork, she focuses on vivid use of colour and eye catching composition.
Erik Chong is a contemporary Chinese artist specializing in abstract painting in ink and colour medium. Erik likes to evoke the viewers’ senses of the imaginary and the real in his art.
Alexander Koltakov is a Toronto painter and woodcarver, born and raised in Crimea. He lived in Israel for 17 years, then moved to Canada. His multicultural heritage is a continual influence in his paintings.
Janna Kroupko was born in Ukraine, graduated from the Moldavian State Academy of Arts and Design (MFA). She works in fiber art and oil painting, as well as in interior design.
Giovanni Lombardi was born and raised in Toronto. Giovanni enjoys using various mediums to interpret his creations. He is currently attending OCAD UNIVERSITY.
Lindsey MacKay trained as a graphic designer, and lives and works in Fredericton New Brunswick. Her keen eye for composition, coupled with her innate sense of texture are what draw you to her work.
Barbara McCormack was born in St. Thomas Ontario and has studied art history, design, colour theory and watercolour and acrylic painting. She works in her studios in Naples Florida and Ancaster Ontario.
Valerie J McMurray worked for years as a Chef at UrbanSource Catering –and she is as talented in the kitchen as with her oil paintings. Born in BC, she divides her time between Owen Sound and Toronto.
Angel Torres was born in Colombia & grew up in Toronto, graduated from Humber College Graphic Arts in 1988. Driven by his passion for photography, Angel has a skilled eye and a taste for the refined.
